You may struggle to get any support from the NFRC as Cembrit Blunn (Dansk Eternit) are associate members. The BBA granted the Cembrit Zeeland Slate a Certificate without testing the product. It was awarded on the grounds it was similar to the Newland. The Zeeland however is riven surfaced not smooth.
The nature of the defect caused the slate to curl and lift clear of the tail disc rivet. This defect was identified by the Stanger Material Science Laboratory of St Albans as being caused by inconsistent coating to the back of the slate which had allowed water absorption and caused the distortion. This was the same conclusion arrived at by Mr Justice Kitchin in the High Court in February 2007, when he stated in his Judgment that “Zeeland Slates installed at Aberfeldy and Greenhithe which have lifted or partially lifted were not of satisfactory quality”. < read more > |
